Huginn and Muninn, where are you both?

And so a sliver of sly Odin's wisdom has helped me enter realm of Blog.

SO what are we doing here and where will this Long Boat of a Blog take us?

Well, hopefully we'll explore those times that are commonly referred to as the Dark Ages, but to me they are a colourful blaze of activity.

Viking traders, raiders, explorers, Frankish feudal tyrants, Byzantine's wealth and intrigue, a Spain split between Visigoths and the Moors, everywhere tribes and peoples still not shackled by nationhood, a Church carving chunks of Pagan faith away, much adventure, new smells, foreign sights, and no doubt a big bucketload of despair too. I love this time!

Some of the books that inspire this devotion:

The Last English King by Julian Rathbone
The Oathsworn Series by Robert Low
The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell
1066: The year of three battles by F J McLynn

Much more to come, but first some pictures of my growing 28mm warband. For miniature wargamers, it is based for Impetus.
